Organizing A Garage Sale Article

Having a good garage sale

Did you know that in order to have a successful garage sale, you need good planning? Even more surprising is the amount of time that you should plan this ahead. One week or two is not uncommon. You will realize that it is easier said than done to do a garage sale.

Here are a couple of tips if you want to rake in the green dough:

1. Make a list of the things you have. Then from that list, decide what you should keep and what you couldn’t care less if you get rid of it.

2. Get ready. Get your things organized and place them in your garage. It would also be a good suggestion to set up the things you will need for your sale. You will need bags for your customers, tables, tables etc. Last thing you want is get caught off guard.

3. You need to think about every possible detail that may arise. You have to decide when you will have your garage sale and stick with it and announce the big sale in your neighborhood or if you have the money, display it in the small ads in your local newspaper. You could also use colored cardboards and put up signs. Fluorescent cardboard works great even some balloons will do the job. Also brag about it to your family and friends and the next thing you know, you’ll have free publicity. You can definitely gain an advantage if you put the items you have in a particular category. For example don’t put a pair of hockey skates near dishes which could lead to disasters.

4. Hot dogs always work. Think about it, if it is a nice hot sunny day outside and it is close to noon your customers might be tempted to buy a hot dog and a soft drink from you if it is offered to them. You probably do it yourself so why not return the favor to the community and enjoy the rewards while your at it too.

5. Improvise a great sale. For example you can give your customers a gift if they buy a certain item that you had previously marked. Of course they will be totally unaware that they will get a bonus gift for participating in your garage sale.

6. Don’t forget to lock your doors when you make your garage sale and please do not leave your money lying around. Ok the stuff you sold might have been junk, but the hard earned money you made and the rest of the things that you still have in your possession in your house are worth a lot more. You made the garage sale for you not someone else.

7. Even if it’s a garage sale it doesn’t have to be messy where you don’t even know where you put your things. Also pick up any garbage that your customers might of left behind. Your future customers will appreciate that very much.
