A time to sell

Have you ever made a garage sale that ended up in a total flop? Yes? What was wrong? It could be that you were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Do not sell stuff in the winter time! You have no way to display, people wont go out as much and simply put, it is a waste of time and money.

For future references
In this day and age, email addresses are a blessing to any one who wants to sell something. It might be a good idea to have someone (that looks good) getting the email address of a client just so that you can inform them of any future garage sale that you might do. Most people who buy are usually interested in those events so why not kill two birds with one stone? Male are usually more willing to give personal info when a lovely damsel asks for it.

For better success with your yard sale, wait for the weekend following the pay. You will notice that most people spend more when they have their pay so take advantage of this.

Also the thing that helps tremendously is to hold your yard sale for more than one day. For example, a three day weekend garage sale event will have customers coming back for more.

Forget the holidays. It will not work at all. Research shows that it is poor business days. During that time, all efforts are directed towards making a good houseguest and they spend time cooking and cleaning their houses rather than go outside. But if you want to attract flies go right ahead.

Week end, these are the two words that garage sale hosts love to hear. To them it means profits coming in and more junk out of the way. It’s a one time thing too. The reason that most garage sales are successful on the weekend is that most people are off on the weekends. Since garage sale shopping is a treat for most, it is no wonder that you see so many families snooping around when there is one in their neighborhood. As mentioned previously, try to hold your sale for more than one day.

Don’t put big stuff on your yard. You want to sell the items that are always in your way or items that take to much space in your cupboards. Ask yourself, do you really need 12 glasses? Chances are, you have a restrained area so go easy on big items. If you do want to sell big items, mention to your clients that you do have them for sale but are not on display for lack of space. Try your attic. Chances are you will not remember the stuff you have there in the first place. Sell those items at a low price.

One final tip is that can be offered is not to mix them items that you want to sell. Cookware does not look good with clothes or children’s toys.
