Helpful tips to have a great garage sale

If you look around your house, you might have a flash of brilliancy one day to do a yard sale to make a few bucks out of it. It might sound simple enough but if you’re at your first experience, here are a few pointers. Next thing you know, you will be selling the thing you expected the less and most of the time come back empty handed with your pockets full of change. It is possible to have a great yard sale and here are the tips…

What is the first thing that you should do? Prepare for yard sale of course. Do not wait for the last day or the day of the garage sale to select the items that you want to sell. It is also important to make publicity for your yard sale and again do not advertise on the day of the sale. The best items to promote are colored cardboard, markers, tape, balloons. Basically anything that will draw attention to your place. You might want to have a few plastic bags for your customers especially if you have breakable objects just to protect them.

Also, if you need furniture for your garage sale, do not hesitate to ask your friends, your family or even your neighbors. Besides it wouldn’t make sense to have to spend money to sell your stuff to make money. Also do not attempt to make all the arrangements yourself. You have a group of friends who will be there in a heartbeat just to help you out. Who knows, they may even want to sell things themselves and this way you can have a big shin ding.

Don’t freak out if it rains. What will you do if the cloud shows up during the middle of your yard sale? Well you can either cover them so that your items don’t get wet or put them in your garage if you have one. The best thing for your breakables, meaning appliance or glass or plates is to put them away from the sun so they don’t loose their colors.

Next thing, do not mix your items. For example, do not put teddy bears or dolls with china dish. If your customers ask you if your electrical things work, make sure that it does so you can prevent any angry customers wanting their money back. Why not decorate your objects to make them more attractive. For example use arrows to point at a nice object. Basically, anything that attracts attention.

Use balloons!!! Tell your neighborhood that the sale event of the year is today and it just so happens that it’s happening in your town. Anything that draws attention will work; the sky is the limit when it comes to selling your idea..

When you make a sale, have money on you and always have in your possession change because you always get some with no change, but would like your old toaster. A good way to have change is to try and sell the small things in the first place. It’s also nice to have the manual’s owner if you have electronical devices.
